In the magnificent medieval town of Óbidos (Portugal), SIPO 2008 - INTERNATIONAL PIANO MASTER CLASSES, promoted by Associaçăo de Cursos Internacionais de Música de Óbidos (ACIM) with the support of the Municipality of Óbidos and the Ministry of Culture – Arts Institute, will be held from 25th of July to 5th of August 2008 by teachers of international reputation:

The master classes are the core activity of the International Piano Festival of Óbidos. Celebrating its 13th edition, it has become the most important event of its kind in Portugal.

 

The teachers are artists of international reputation as well as excellent pedagogues.

 

The course is open to professional level students, musicians beginning a career, teachers as well as very motivated younger pianists/violoncellists. Apart from the individual teaching the cello/piano duos will profit from the opportunity of working the sonatas   with teachers of both instruments.

 

The number of places is limited to forty students, without preliminary audition. Enrolments are accepted by order of reception. If necessary, teachers may hold auditions.

 

Students will be distributed among the teachers, taking into consideration the choice of preference and works to be played mentioned on the enrolment form, although subject to availability.

The international piano master classes of Óbidos offer to all active participants the possibility to work with several teachers providing a highly diversified musical enrichment.

 

Each participant has to present at least three works.

Pianos for study will be provided for active participants during at least 2 hours of daily study for each student.

 

Every student has the possibility of performing in public concert.

 

The “Maria de Lurdes Avellar” Prize will be awarded for the most outstanding public concert performance. The Prize will be determined by a vote of the concert audience and the teachers of the master classes.

 

All participants will receive a course certificate.

 

The enrolment includes three individual classes (60 minutes each) with one or more teachers, attendance of all courses, a minimum of 2 hours of practice time per day, free entrance to all concerts of the Festival, lodging with half board from July 25th to August 5th, transfer from Lisbon airport to Óbidos and back and a half day tourist visit to the Óbidos region.
