Márcio Carneiro
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, cellist Marcio Carneiro began musical studies at the age of six. After a first prize awarded by the Musical Schools Association of Brazil, he received a scholarship from the german government to pursue his studies in Europe under the renowned cellist and teacher Andre Navarra.
In 1976 Mr. Carneiro received a diploma with honors from the Accademia Chigiana in Siena. In 1977 he graduated with honors and received a sobist's diploma from the Musikhochschule Detmold, where he was appointed professor in 1979.
A 1978 prize at the International Tschaikovsky Competition in Moscow marked the beginning of a burgeoning international performing and teaching career. Since then, Mr. Carneiro has appeared as soloist with numerous orchestras and has given recitals throughout Europe, South and North America, Japan, and Korea. He has received much public and critical praise for the beauty of his tone, the perfection of his technique, and the authenticity of his style.
Mr. Carneiro regularly gives master dasses at music festivals in Sion (Switzerland), Flaine (France), Estoril (Portugal), and Bariloche (Argentina).
